. >> when you talk about the practical side, krystal, let me show you, james, senator lindsey graham. what he said today about president obama and how the president is still reaching out and we know all of the things graham has said. listen to this. >> he just called me. >> he did? >> yeah. i'm very encouraged about what i see from the president in terms of substance and tone. he's calling people. this is how you solve hard problems. maybe because of sequestration and frustration with the public, the time is right to act. he wants to do the big deal. >> so the president wants to do the big deal. he's doing the right thing according to lindsey graham. i mean, does this mean that there's a possibility that the president can work out a big bargain here or something? some kind of adjustment of compromise, james? >> well, listen. the president is always -- and he's shown himself to be willing and able to compromise. in fact, those of us on the left have been disturbed by some of the compromises that he has made. so he's always moving towards consensus. i think he's always demonstrated he's will

to answer some of the questions that lindsey graham and others have asked as to the rules of engagement as to targeted killings of americans. it was some of the others on the opposite end of it. we were asking for that. they still have questions about benghazi. it's going to sail through committee we expect. what about the floor vote? are we going to have a director of central intelligence by the end of the week? chris. >> well, andrea, you know, i always hesitate to predict. i'm going to go back to my first answer on when they vote. you never really know. i think we probably will. i think what senator feinstein announced this morning is there is more information given on drones and more information on the promise of more information on what happened in benghazi. that that would be enough. now, again, john mccain, republican from arizona, lindsey graham, republican from south carolina, have both said over the weekend on the sunday talk shows that they are holding out the possibility of still holding up the john brennan confirmation vote. my guess is at the end of the day they don't part

. republican senator lindsey graham says he just spoke with the president by phone. take a listen to what he said. >> i'm very encouraged by what i've seen from the president in terms of substance and tone. he's calling people. this is how you solve hard problems. what i see from the president is probably the most encouraging engagement on a big issue i have seen since the early years of his presidency. >> i'm really sorry to repeat history, but haven't we seen this before? the president compromises. the president goes to extreme lengths and guess what happens? the sequester happens. or there's a fight other the debt ceiling, or the continuing resolution will be brutal. what's the point? >> well, you have got a good point. essentially graham is one of the folks who is saying we have to have more revenues. he said he's open to $600 billion to revenues and the president is trying to reach out and see if that can be done. the situation we're in now is paul ryan has essentially a dog ate the homework kind of budget. nobody has to take responsible for these brutal cuts that make no sense and are

, it was obviously lindsey graham and not what he was saying to chuck todd. the flip-flopping relative to the republican base, how do you see that playing? >> well, i think jeb has an opportunity here. much to ron's point on the substance, to really move the party in a different direction and off the particular pinhead it's on right now on immigration to a broader, you know, acceptance of the party of assimilation which we have always at least been historically, this idea that you are all welcome to this great land of opportunity, and i think he has a chance to carve that out. you know, don't try to out, you know, mar are mashco rubio or be more conservative than. if jeb bush is himself and is comfortable in this skin in his space as we have seen him up to this point, don't let the prospects of running for the presidency change you into something you're not. you run into the mitt romney problem, and then it's downhill from there. be himself and bring the party to your reasoning on this subject and i think, i think quite honestly people will be surprised at the response. >> ron, do you
